Riding for Rethink Mental Illness

The right support is vital to help sufferers of mental illness, and those closest to them, understand that there is a way through the crisis and they are not alone.

Miles Thomas

I am raising money for a charity called Rethink Mental Illness by riding 100 miles on a bike with only one gear. My reason for making this challenge seriously tough are laid out below so please take a few minutes to read on.

I think it is fair to say that few people know or understand much about mental illness until it starts to affect their life. Sadly, whether directly or indirectly, this can leave those who do become affected feeling alone, confused and fearful for the future.

The right support is vital to help sufferers of mental illness, and those closest to them, understand that there is a way through the crisis and they are not alone.

This is some of the essential work that Rethink Mental Illness undertakes, providing balanced advice on treatments, care and other social issues such as benefits and employment rights. They provide support to over 60,000 people every year providing a network of trusted support, changing attitudes throughout England.

Our family has suffered for two years at the hand of post-natal depression, something that we have always been very open about to help us battle the serious effects it has had on our lives.

Sadly for others, battles have been lost. In November 2015, our dear friend could not see a way past his suffering and sadly paid the ultimate price. My efforts this year are dedicated to him and his memory. Raising money that will help other people who suffer in the same way is all I can think of to do after such an awful tragedy.

Miles raised an incredible £1,810 and will forever be a Rethink Mental Illness super star.
