Rethink Carer Support: Cambridgeshire and Peterborough

We are run by carers, with carers, for carers of adults with mental health problems. Our aims are to: • Support and inform each other – through monthly groups, a phone line, informal advocacy and financial help – so that we know we are not alone • Help each other develop the knowledge skills and confidence to do the best we can for our loved one with mental health problems • Provide information about training, helpful local agencies and rights • Work with carers to strengthen their voice as experts by experience so that the limited resources available to mental health and social care are put to the best possible use • Engage constructively with NHS and local authority commissioners and the NHS Provider Trust Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT), to improve services – injecting where necessary a sense of urgency and an element of challenge

Oxford Carers Support believes that carers have an invaluable role in helping people recover from mental illness and that they should be acknowledged, valued and supported. We place people who use our services at the centre of everything we do. We provide high quality services and welcome feedback from service users to constantly develop and improve them. We are a highly experienced team of senior mental health recovery workers, working across Oxfordshire, specialising in supporting carers of people living with a mental illness. We work closely with Oxfordshire Mental Health Partnership, signposting and referring to services and providing a carers course within the Oxfordshire Recovery College. South West Carers 4 BPD

Southwest Carers is a voluntarily led peer support group for carers, who face the challenge of loving and caring for someone who has borderline personality disorder (BPD). We meet twice a month on Wednesday evenings in Zoom meetings where we offer a safe and friendly space to share worries, experiences, and our hopes for the future. We work together to access guidance and practical advice from experts in BPD and try to raise the profile of this distressing mental disorder. Group members say that they feel less alone and really value being able to talk to people who understand the complexities of caring for someone with BPD.

Gillingham and Shaftesbury Carers Support Group

We are a small, well-established voluntary peer support group whose members are carers of people with lived experience of mental illness. We are reaching out to new members to come and join us to help the group grow and expand, as we know firsthand how valuable this support can be. We offer a friendly and safe place where we can share experiences and signpost each other to resources. We meet twice a month on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month from 10am until 12pm. On the 2nd week of the month, we meet in Gillingham at Gillingham Community Church, Wessex House, 8 High Street, Dorset, SP8 4AG. Exmouth Mental Health Carers (St John's Group)

We offer a friendly, welcoming space for carers, families and friends of people with lived experience of mental illness. Information, peer support and signposting will be offered alongside a chance to share experiences and make new friends. We also sometimes have speakers and run workshops with local organisations. We meet in Exmouth on the first Thursday of every month at St. John’s Court in an informal setting. Refreshments are available and someone will be in the lobby area to greet you. Dorset Carers Support offers advice, information and peer support for people who look after someone living with mental illness throughout the Dorset Council area. Our service also offers group activities and outings so that our attendees can meet other carers in their local area. In addition to this we manage a carer respite fund providing respite for carers in order to improve wellbeing. Wakefield Rethink Carers Group

Our Wakefield Carers group has been meeting for several years now. We are a friendly group that meets once a month in an afternoon. We offer a safe, relaxing space for people caring for someone with mental illness to share what sort of month they've had. This typically leads to members offering support and encouragement to each other. We never put pressure on anyone to share. We just offer the space for people to do so freely and without judgement, so our members feel less isolated and more supported. As we meet in an afternoon, we provide a simple lunch buffet with tea and coffee that we can enjoy together while we talk. On occasions, we also arrange social outings outside our regular meetings. New members are warmly welcome, but please do contact us before attending.

Canterbury & Coastal Rethink Carers Support Group

Our group aims to help carers and their partners, relatives and friends with a wide range of mental health problems, including accessing the information they need. We offer a safe environment where people feel at ease. We hold monthly meetings that give carers the opportunity to talk about the issues that are affecting them. At alternate meetings, we invite speakers to share their expertise to a wider audience. We also produce a monthly newsletter and offer telephone support. Our group members raise awareness of the support of Rethink Mental Illness in the community by attending at Southeastern train stations health events, we also stage an annual sponsored fundraising bike ride event, the next being on Sunday 15th May 2022. Our group has a physical activity initiative too, called the ‘Bike Ride, Walk and Talk’, further details can be obtained by contacting CCGroup@rethink.org. We embrace opportunities to extend our provision of activities that bring families of Carers and their loved ones who are service users.

Worthing Rethink Mental Health Carers Group

We are a peer-led support group for the carers, family members and friends of people with lived experience of mental illness. We also welcome people living with mental illness who wish to attend, as both sets of people share similar issues. We have three groups running: 1. A virtual meeting runs on the 2nd Monday of each month at 7pm. Contact us for details. 2. A face-to-face meeting is held on the 4th Monday of each month from 7pm at Meadowfield Hospital, Swandean, Arundel Road, Worthing BN13 3EF. Every month, we try to arrange for a guest speaker to talk to the group about their specialist area but always leave time for people to share concerns and receive support. 3. A drop-in session takes place on the first Wednesday of the month between 10:30am and 1pm, at The Happy Teapot Cafe, 7 Richmond Rd, Worthing BN11 1PN (opposite Worthing Library). Stay for 5 minutes, the whole time, or anywhere in between.
