Empowering people: Coaching for mental health recovery

This guide introduces a coaching approach that can often be really useful when it comes to conversations between mental health professionals and the people using their services.

We know that the quality of the relationship between mental health staff and the person receiving support is of crucial importance.

We hear this again and again from people affected by mental illness and from carers and others who provide informal support. Research on the effectiveness of different types of therapy also points to the importance of the therapeutic relationship.

This booklet can be a useful guide for anyone working with people with mental health difficulties and especially for mental health professionals keen to embrace a coaching approach in their everyday practice.

Please note that this booklet was publish in 2012 and some information and links may now be out of date.
