You have helped to change lives

On behalf of all the staff at Rethink Mental Illness and everyone who uses our services, thank you so much for your support.

Your kindness and generosity mean we can continue to provide our life-changing services and help even more people severely affected by mental illness.

Let’s see how you’ve helped to shape our services over the last year:

Telephone services

6401 people have been supported by Rethink’s Advice and Information Service since April 2024.

Daniel has had a difficult journey living with schizoaffective disorder. However, when he reached out for help via one of our helplines, he started to make sense of his condition.

He also took up running as part of his recovery, and will be taking on the London Landmarks Half Marathon to raise funds for our services

I used to be very bad about saying when I was anxious and didn’t like to get any help. After my last relapse something clicked - I knew I had to understand my relapse signature and ensure reasonable adjustments were made. The most helpful intervention was from my GP. I also phoned the Rethink Helpline and it was great to know I could have someone to speak to out of hours.

Community support groups

93% of service users would recommend the service they had received to a family member or friend if they were in a similar position.

After experiencing psychosis and depression, Billie-Jean found our Derbyshire Recovery and Peer Support Service. She made fulfilling friendships and got involved in several activities. She now works for Rethink Mental Illness as a Peer Support Worker.

The staff there were so kind and understanding, completely non-judgmental, and the other people attending the support group were very welcoming.

Billie-Jean

"I quickly tapped into a social network and made some good friendships," continues Billie-Jean. "This led to facilitating groups for the service. Including welcoming people to the drop-in, planning and running a photography course, volunteering for conservation projects locally, and running a gardening group.

"I quickly acquired a paid position within the Rethink office as a Bank Staff member. It was my first toe-dip back into paid employment after several years of unemployment, and it gave me a huge confidence boost.”

Supported housing services

84% of service users agreed that their quality of life improved as a result of the support they had received.

After experiencing severe depression and being hospitalised multiple times, Hugh now lives at Station Grove, one of our supported housing services. He is now the happiest and healthiest he has ever been.

Station Grove was an old house turned into six brand new independent flats. I didn’t think I’d be able to go to the independent flats immediately, but the idea was to come straight here. And I haven’t really looked back.

Hugh

"There’s a safety net and some support still, with the staff across the road. You see your support worker for one hour once a week, and they check that you’re looking after yourself. When I was first here, we did shopping to get everything I need for the flat or ingredients for food.

"Things have really taken off. They say I can stay here for as long as I like, for life if I want it. If I could've waved a magic wand, this situation right now would be what I’d wished for. It’s just like I’ve got my life again.  I just am the happiest I’ve ever been. It’s like I waited six years to get to where I want to be. I can’t really thank Rethink enough for that."

From providing supported and crisis housing, to local support groups and advice lines, your support means we can continue to be there for people severely affected by mental illness. Thank you again for everything you do.
