Rethink Mental Illness response to Amanda Pritchard stepping down
25 February 2025
Today, 25 Feb, Amanda Pritchard has announced that she is to step down from her role as the head of NHS England. In response to this news, Mark Winstanley, CEO of Rethink Mental Illness, said:
“We are enormously sad to see Amanda Pritchard step down from her role and wish her every success. Despite an unprecedented series of challenges she managed to maintain a strategic commitment to mental health and in particular to those who are living with mental illness. We hope her successor will continue to prioritise the issue, not only to support those waiting for treatment but as part of a wider drive to improve the nation’s mental health and return a level of productivity absent for many years.

About Rethink Mental Illness
Rethink Mental Illness is the charity for people severely affected by mental illness. No matter who a person is or how bad their situation has got, we are here to help them get the information and support they need to live a better life.
We work tirelessly to ensure people living with mental illness and their carers are listened to, treated fairly and have easy access to services that meet their mental health needs and wider physical health, financial, housing, work and volunteering needs.
We do this by providing our own services, campaigning on a local and national level, and working with a wide range of other organisations to create communities that care.
