Protect Mental Health Funding -

a campaign win!

Our campaign to Protect Mental Health Funding resulted in a campaign win in December 2024 when the government announced the Mental Health Investment Standard (MHIS) will stay.

Over 500 Rethink Mental Illness campaigners emailed their MP in just 3 days to make sure that MHIS - which is designed to protect and grow mental health funding across England - remained in place. Thank you to everyone that took action!

We’re hugely relieved and grateful that the government has listened to calls from across the mental health sector to protect mental health funding. MHIS plays a critical role in supporting the government’s commitment to achieving parity of esteem.

We await to hear more on the need to increase the share of NHS funding needed to drive down waiting lists and ensure mental health services are resourced to meet demand but for now, we are really pleased to hear that the Mental Health Investment Standard will remain in place.

Thank you for taking the time to email your MP and making your voice count.

Read our letter to the Prime Minister alongside 17 charities and organisations asking for urgent clarification on funding commitments for mental health.
