We back new campaign calling for NICE to update anxiety guidelines
13 February 2026
The UK Council for Psychotherapy has launched a campaign calling for the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) to update its guidelines on anxiety and panic disorders. UCKP highlights that the guidelines were first published in 2011 and haven't been properly updated since, meaning people are losing out on a range of treatments which could help.
Charlotte Nicholls, Associate Director of Policy and Influencing at Rethink Mental Illness, said:
“Anyone experiencing an anxiety disorder should be able to expect that, when they seek support, they are offered a range of effective, evidence-based treatment options. However, the guidelines which health professionals draw on when treating anxiety have not been updated for several years, meaning people are being denied support that could help, and minority groups face too many barriers to care. We’re backing calls for NICE to update its guidelines so that people experiencing the daily challenges of an anxiety or panic disorder have the best chance at recovery.”
