Following a report by the Care Quality Commission into the progress being made on learning from deaths in care Mark Winstanley, CEO of Rethink Mental Illness said:

“In the pursuit of a first class mental healthcare system, we must always celebrate examples of good practice. Following the release of the CQC’s report into learning from deaths in care, a review of the national framework that we contributed to, it is clear that there are many instances of good practice.

“However, we have grave concerns that some mental health trusts are struggling, particularly around involving bereaved families and carers. The family liaison role suggested by the Independent Review of the Mental Health Act would help address this, and we are keen to see it applied along with the rest of the Review’s recommendations, as soon as possible.”
