Rethink Mental Illness offers specialist bereavement services across England, offering practical and emotional support when you need it most.
What are Rethink’s support after suicide services?
Our bereavement services are here for anyone affected by suicide in Surrey, Brighton and Hove, the Black Country, and Gloucestershire.
We know that everyone’s experience is unique, so our support is flexible and personal.
Here are the types of things on offer at our services:
- One-to-one support from a Suicide Bereavement Worker for up to six weeks
- Bereavement counselling: 6–8 weekly sessions, with the option for 8 more sessions every fortnight
- Weekly peer support groups, so you can connect with others who understand
- Practical and emotional help, including:
- Open conversations with people who listen
- Signposting to other services if you need them
- Crisis support
- Expert information and advice
- Encouragement to build social networks
How can you access support?
We believe support should be easy to access after losing someone to suicide. Referrals can be made by:
- Police
- Coroners
- Healthcare professionals (GPs, hospitals, crisis teams)
- Friends and family
- Or you can refer yourself
What makes Rethink’s bereavement services different?
We know that every journey through grief is different. That’s why our services are:
- No need for a formal referral.
- Emotional support to help you talk through your grief.
- Flexible about where and when we meet, whether that’s virtual or in person.
- Practical support such as help with inquests, funerals, notifying companies of the death, support with police and media contact.
- Responsive. We work quickly with affected organisations, such as universities or workplaces.
