Rethink York Carers Group
Open to: Carers
York
We meet at the Friargate Friends Meeting House once a month, 7pm until 9pm. Please contact us for more information or if you would like to attend.
Group Coordinator: York Carers Centre
Our Group has been supporting people living with mental illness including their families and carers for over thirty years. We run a monthly carers group in collaboration with the York carers centre. Our group meets once a month in an evening, and offers carers and family supporting someone living with mental illness the chance to come together in a relaxed and welcoming environment.
Our friendly group offers a safe space for people to share their experiences freely and without judgement, so our members feel less isolated and more supported.
We provide information, share knowledge and skills and on occasions we are supported by visiting speakers from our local trust, keeping us up to date with changes in services and care.

The East Lancs Activity Group runs a wide array of activities across Burnley for people living with mental illness. We believe that by providing sports and social activities we can help to improve the mental and physical wellbeing of members and reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness. Our group activities vary from going to the gym to visiting the local cinema to see the latest Hollywood blockbuster. We meet on the first Friday of each month to plan our activities for the following month, so all our members can help decide what we do. The group is entirely peer led, and is run by Greg and a group of volunteers who each have a personal experience of mental illness. An important part of what we do is providing peer support to each other and sharing our experiences with others facing similar challenges. If you’re interested in finding out more, please get in touch. We look forward to hearing from you. Meets in various locations across Burnley.

Our registered Group in Liverpool was established by people who had personal experiences of mental health and came together to challenge the stigma around mental health. Through our work with the Time to Change campaign, we realised that there wasn't a place for people to come together, share our knowledge of what support was available to each other, and give and receive mutual peer support. We established the Liverpool group to provide this opportunity, so the more knowledgeable members could share their stories and journeys through navigating the mental health system in Liverpool. We know that when people first come in contact with the mental health field, it can be confusing to know what support is available in the community and which is appropriate for your needs at that time. One of our aims is to provide clear information about what support you can access in the region. We also provide an opportunity to share their own stories about how mental health has affected them, providing a non-judgmental listening ear from people who have been through similar challenges. Coordinators Garrick and Jeanette have their personal experiences of mental health, and supporting other people with their own recovery journey of mental health. We strive to provide a safe and supportive environment where people can talk openly about mental health The group is currently taking a break but will resume mid-September 2025. We currently provide information and signposting services at Liverpool Central Library on Thursday afternoons and Friday mornings. We have a desk on the first floor of the library (near the reference section) where people can come to speak with one of our volunteers, Garrick and Jeanette. We welcome opportunities to listen to your personal experiences of mental health (and people are free to share as little or as much as they like) and share our knowledge of what services are available in the Liverpool area that might be able to provide further support. We are also happy to share our own experiences and what's worked for us (in the knowledge that what's worked for us might not work for everyone). Our desk is located in a public section of the library, so other people may be sitting at a nearby table (especially during busy times). If you need a more confidential space to speak, please let us know before so we can see if we can arrange a more private area to speak (we might not be able to arrange this on the day).
