Why am I having a panic attack?

A panic attack is your body’s alarm system going off because your brain thinks you’re under threat - even when there’s no obvious, physical danger.

You might feel your heart racing, start sweating, or struggle to catch your breath. It’s intense, and it can feel overwhelming.

Your body releases stress hormones like adrenaline, triggering your “fight, flight, or freeze” response. Sometimes, it’s linked to anxiety disorders, but panic attacks can happen to anyone, in all sorts of situations.

Triggers can be obvious, like stress or big life changes. But sometimes, there’s no clear reason at all. Everyone’s experiences are different.
