Our Eckington craft group offers people living with mental illness the opportunity to come together and socialise. Our welcoming group also offers members the chance to develop a range of creative skills, including textiles and sewing, card-making, painting and drawing, in a safe, supportive and non-judgmental environment. Welcome to Rethink Mental Illness Manchester support group. This group and our meetings are managed and led by volunteers and is supported by and registered with Rethink Mental Illness. Our group aims to provide an opportunity for people who experience mental health difficulties to come together for mutual peer support. We run a general support peer support meeting on Thursday evenings, for anyone experiencing difficulties with mental health regardless of whether they have a diagnosis or are involved with mental health services, as well as families and carers. All our meetings include and are open to their families and carers. As a peer-led group, we find that one of our most valuable offers is that members are able to feel comfortable talking about their experiences with others in a similar situation. Members often share suggestions based on how they overcame similar challenges in their lives, though sometimes just the opportunity to talk can help reduce feelings of isolation. We are pleased to announce our group is meeting once again after a period of suspension due to COVID. Our Wakefield Carers group has been meeting for several years now. We are a friendly group that meets once a month in an afternoon. We offer a safe, relaxing space for people caring for someone with mental illness to share what sort of month they've had. This typically leads to members offering support and encouragement to each other. We never put pressure on anyone to share. We just offer the space for people to do so freely and without judgement, so our members feel less isolated and more supported. As we meet in an afternoon, we provide a simple lunch buffet with tea and coffee that we can enjoy together while we talk. On occasions, we also arrange social outings outside our regular meetings.
